Relocating To Bangkok With Your Children

Relocating To Bangkok with your family is exciting, but at the same time it brings a lot of anxiety even if you have lived here before.   The culture, the food and the people are all different. However, these should be looked at as positive changes. Something different keeps life

Parents who are seeking a world class education for their children have more choices than ever when it comes to international schools in Bangkok. While this increase in options is a positive development, it also means that you have many things to consider when deciding which school is best for your child. Although it would be easy to assume that the cost of tuition is an indicator of a school’s quality, it’s important that you consider other factors, such as the quality of its teachers and which organizations it has been accredited by, as well the school’s curriculum and location.

No school is better than its teachers, so it’s important that you consider the quality of teachers at any of the Bangkok schools that you are considering sending your child to. Although it’s difficult for you to quickly assess how good the teachers are at any particular school, there are some things to look for. Most of the teachers at the top Bangkok international schools are Westerners but the nationality of the teacher isn’t the best indicator of whether or not someone is a good teacher. You should look for schools that mostly hire Western teachers who hold bachelor’s degrees or higher in education or the field that they are teaching. They should also be qualified to teach in their home countries and have experience doing so.

Whether or not a school has been accredited by a respected international organization is another important thing to consider when looking at Bangkok schools for your child. Schools holding accreditation from organizations like the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) are likely to provide your child with a high quality education and will look good on students’ transcripts when they apply to universities.

You might want to choose a school that follows your home country’s curriculum if your child has already spent years learning in your home country’s education system or will be returning to that system within the next year or two. If neither of these is the case, you should consider enrolling your child in one of the Bangkok international schools that follow a well-regarded curriculum like the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, the American curriculum or the British curriculum.

Finding the school that’s right for your child is rarely an easy task and the growing number of international schools in Bangkok can make your choice even more difficult. However, if you focus on important factors like quality of teachers, accreditation, curriculum and location, you can narrow your search to the few schools in Bangkok that best suit your child’s needs.
